LIBERAL DEMOCRATS
LIBERAL DEMOCRATS
BASIC FACTS
Name: Liberal Democrats

Known as: Lib-Dems

Leader: Ed Davey

Colours: Yellow and white

Political alignment: Central
The Liberal Democrats (better known as the Lib Dems) were formed through a merger of the Social Democratic Party and the Liberal Party. They are currently the third largest party in Parliament (nicking the title from the SNP at the last election) You probably know them from Ed Davey’s stunts during the most recent General Election campaign, or from their controversial U-turn on university tuition fees.
Although the Lib-Dems have never been the majority in Government, they have held important positions within coalition governments, and they’re super successful in local elections. They’re currently having a resurgence in support and are viewed as a good ‘central’ alternative to both Labour and the Tories.
