At its core, British politics is really simple. The UK is split into 650 constituencies, each of which elects a representative (MP) to Parliament. General Elections let you decide who will be your MP - all you have to do is go into a polling booth and place a cross next to the person you want to vote for!
The main thing you need to concentrate on is choosing a party that best represents your political views, and there are tons of parties to choose from! We've created profiles for a couple of the main parties across the UK, but it's always worth checking who's standing in your area - especially if you live in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland!

During devolved elections, things can get a bit more complicated, as you might be asked to rank candidates in order of preference. Don't stress about this too much. All you need to do is go in there with some idea of who you like and who you dislike.

Remember - getting involved in politics is important, but it shouldn't be something to get too stressed out about. Don't be put off by the people who say you have to know every fact and figure - the most important thing to do is get stuck in, get your voice heard, and get involved!
